Minimum age requirements and the role of the school choice set

Abstract Using several data sources from Chile, we study the impact of size school choice set at time starting primary school. With that purpose, exploit multiple cutoffs defining minimum age entry, which not only define when a student can start elementary school, but also schools she/he choose. Moreover, differences across municipalities in composition according to these allow us account for municipality fixed factors (educational markets) characteristics between choosing different deadlines. That is, compare difference outcomes children living same around with those other experience change available (double RD). We show larger increases probability better measured by non-high-stakes examination. this quasi-experimental variation reveals an important reduction likelihood dropping out and child would switch during her/his life.
